How do you sell a product or service? How do you sell more of what you have? How do you sell it faster and then how do you sell it to more people? Today I’m gonna teach you five reasons why people buy.

Now, these are not emotional reasons. I’m not gonna talk about that. I’ve got other videos that I talk about that, but today I’m gonna teach you the points of differentiation in terms of your offer, in terms of your focus, what do you need to focus on? How do you stand out in the marketplace? How to cut through the noise, right? How do you make sure that more people will buy from you? So, let’s get right into it.

Reason number one why people buy is because of price. Comment below if this is how you buy and how you make your buying decisions, based on price. Who gives me a better deal? Who offers the cheapest price? That’s who I’m gonna buy from, right? So, maybe when it comes to your products or services you do offer the lowest price in the marketplace or you offer a lower price compared to your competitors.

Yes, that is one reason why people will buy from you. The challenge, when it comes to offering the lowest price, is when you compete by price you die by price. It is not a sustainable advantage because anybody at any given time could come in and compete with you and offer a lower price.

So, whatever advantages you have right now in terms of getting customers and getting market share, someone come in and just say, hey, you know what? We’re gonna offer 10% cheaper, 20% cheaper than what you’re offering right now.

You instantly lose that competitive advantage. But that is one option. So, think of areas where you buy based on price. Reason number two why people buy is because of selection. We buy from places and companies where they offer a wide range of selections.

One of the best examples I could give you is Amazon, right? When you want to buy something you would go to Amazon because they offer a wide range of selections. Or maybe there’s a local store that you go to that they offer a wide range of selections.

You like to go there because you don’t need to go to here and here and here and here and here. You can just go to one place and buy almost everything that you want. So, Amazon is a great example. I remember when I need to do something now, when I need to buy something, I’m like, ah, you know what? I don’t want to make a trip.

I don’t want to send someone to get all that stuff. Maybe just go to Amazon, buy, and ship directly to my house, and pretty much has everything that I want. I can look at the reviews, I can compare prices.

Great. Let me give you another example. Netflix. One of the reasons why Netflix is so successful is because now you can go to Netflix and you can just watch. You get a lot of selections, right? What type of movies that you want.

You like action movies? They’ve got a ton of those. You like drama? They’ve got a ton of those. You like TV series? They got a ton of those. So, that’s the second reason why people buy. Reason number three why people buy is because of quality.

We want good quality products and services, don’t you? Think about in your own life who do you buy from? Don’t you want superior quality in terms of products or services that maybe you have to pay a little bit more, but you’re like, you know what, it is worth it, right? The experience is worth it.

You’re willing to spend a little bit more money, but what’s very interesting is this. As a buyer, as a consumer, we could be a price buyer in one category and we could be a quality buyer from a totally different category.

Just because you buy based on price for certain products and services it doesn’t mean you’re always a price buyer across the board. It’s very, very critical. So, think about in your own life, where do you buy for quality that you don’t mind spending a little bit more money? For me, I almost always buy for qualities.

One thing I’ve learned, example, like for shoes, I used to buy cheap shoes. I thought it doesn’t make a difference, right? But what I notice is when I buy cheap shoes they wouldn’t last as long and they would not be as comfortable.

The quality is not as good. Now if I spend more money on a pair of shoes, yes, it is more expensive, but they are more comfortable, they’re more durable, also, they look better and they feel better and they last longer.

So, there’s certain products and services that I choose to buy in my life based on quality. People are always willing to pay for quality. There’s always a segment in the marketplace that are willing to pay more, in fact, a lot more, for premium products, services.

They don’t mind it as long as the quality, it is good. Reason number four why people buy is because of convenience. Nowadays consumers, we want something and we want something now. We don’t want to wait.

So, convenience is a huge selling factor. Imagine this, you are traveling, right? You landed at the airport, you go to the hotel, and then, you want to eat, you’re hungry. But all the restaurants are already closed.

You’re in your hotel room, you’re like, oh my god, I need something to eat, and you look at the mini bar knowing that, what are you talking, that chips costs like two, three, four times more than what I could get in some store.

What the heck is this? But you know what? You’re hungry and you want some food. You’re willing to pay more money for what? It’s the same product. For convenience. People are willing to pay more for convenience.

Something that will save them time, that will save them a lot of effort. So, convenience is a huge selling factor. So, why are you willing to pay three or four times more for the same product that you get somewhere else? You could easily go get in a car, get in a Uber, and go get it, but you’re like, I don’t want to move, it’s late at night, I’m tired, I’m exhausted, I just want something.

A quick bite, I just want something to eat. That’s perfectly fine. You’re buying convenience. So, people are willing to pay for convenience. In fact, people are willing to pay quite a bit for convenience.

So, comment below. Where else in your life that you buy because of convenience? Amazon, besides selection, they also offer convenience. It’s simple. I don’t need to go somewhere. I don’t need to get in my car.

I could just go to my phone, I could go to my computer, I could go to my iPad and just order from there. So, that’s another selling advantage that they have. Convenience. Reason number five why people buy is because of personalized service.

I very much believe now the competitive advantage a lot of companies should offer is personalized service. We are now in the era of personalization. We don’t just want products for everybody, we want products for us.

Even think of like Coca-Cola, a brand. You’ve seen those bottle where they have your personalized name on it, right? It’s a form of personalization. That’s my bottle of Coca-Cola, although, you know, it’s the same thing, it’s just Coca-Cola, it’s a Coke.

But that’s a form. Even for something like this people want personalization. You think about Amazon, you go there, it is a personalized shopping experience. Your Amazon home page is very different from mine.

Depends on what products you bought in the past, what’s your browsing history, right? So, think about that, personalized service. I’ll give you a perfect example. Jenny and I, we have a personal shopper at Heart of Renfield, and she offers personalized service.

Example, she always goes the extra mile. Whenever there’s a new product, without us going to the store, she will send us pictures, hey, we’ve got this new suit, we’ve got this new bag, we’ve got this new jacket, whatever it might be, we will take a look.

And then, we can say, okay, you know what, that’s cool. If we do like it we have our credit cards on file and she could just bill the credit card, she will bring it to us, to our home, dropped it off to a concierge.

We could try it on. If we don’t like it she could come to concierge and take it back. It saves us a lot of time. It’s a personalized service. When we go to the store, when we buy a bunch of things, she will also put all of that together and then deliver to our home without us carrying all the bags and stuff like that.

We could just keep shopping. It makes our shopping experience more enjoyable, and also saves us a lot of time, as well. See, personalized service. So, out of those five reasons why people buy, which one should you focus on? Which one is your point of differentiation? I suggest you focus on one of them instead of trying to compete on price as well as on quality as well as on selection and then convenience as well as personalized service because when you focus on quality, chances are you need to charge more in order to deliver that kind of quality.

You need to charge more money if you want to offer that personalized service. So, focus on one of these. So, you now know the five reasons why people buy. We’ve done over 12 million in sales, and I’m not saying that to brag. I’m saying that because it gives us a lot of data. It gives us a lot of things to look at to see what was working in ’17, in ’18 and ’19, and now in 2020.

And what changes were made as well? We have hundreds of clients that we help create and sell their online courses. And so we see the changes in their businesses as well. And that is what I’m gonna go over in this video.

Let me know in the comments. Okay, so we wanna share our message with the world. When we have an online course or a coaching program or a consulting program, it’s because we’re good at something, and we believe in something.

And we have a message, and we wanna reach as many people as possible. And I know for me, it’s really helped sell my online course to not only make money but create an impact. I’ve been asked to speak on massive stages, I’ve been asked to be interviewed on TV, I’ve seen the lives of my clients change.

And all that is extremely fulfilling, way past just money. But the thing is we get so caught up in the marketing and the advertising, in the selling of the course that sometimes it makes it not so fun to have an online course business because we’re struggling so hard to sell it that we’re not getting to enjoy the part where we teach and where we impact lives.

And so I really wanna help navigate that for you and make that a lot simpler and easier in today’s video. That said, let’s jump into the very first thing that I have seen a huge trend and how to fix it and that is simplicity.

So we started moving to a much simpler way to sell online education than most people do early. So we were lucky. Well, I’m not necessarily gonna say lucky, I kinda saw it coming. But what we’re seeing traditionally is not working anymore in 2020 because people are impatient, people have a lower attention span.

But moreover, they just want the information now. So what was working before was a lot of this auto-webinar where people would be able to select a time. And for those of you who don’t know what a webinar is, basically, you’re giving away a free class.

You’re giving some value and at the end of the class, you’re saying hey buy my premium class. Or book a call then sell them the higher ticket class. So the thing is when you have a webinar traditionally, you’re either doing it live constantly.

So a lot of times people can’t make it, or they miss it or what have you. Or if you’re doing an auto-webinar, they choose a time, they miss that. And a lot of people are still doing those types of things.

And the fact of the matter is people want the information now, so we switched to a much simpler way to market. When we say do a webinar, we will go ahead and allow them to watch the webinar on the very next page.

Whereas before, we had this whole system where they had to register, pick a time, and then on the next page it was like a confirmation page. And they had to go to another page, and that was a countdown page.

And they had to go to the live room. And it was just way too many moving parts, way too much friction. And so what we did was we did landing page, and we went right to the webinar. You register to watch the class, the very next page is the class.

That doubled our conversions. We also started deleting a lot of unnecessary pages from our funnel. And just being more direct and presenting the offers sooner and keeping everything simple. So instead of doing like a five-day launch, we would just have a one really good video.

Instead of doing multiple live webinars, or times where they can select when to watch their webinar, we would just have the watch it on the next page. Instead of making people go through this long sequence, we would just get them on a phone call.

So everything from asking them in the emails, hey would you like to get on a phone call, all the way to posting on Instagram and saying, hey here’s some value. By the way, if you’d like us to help you with this, send us a DM.

And then they’d DM us, and we either sell them right there on the DM or get them on the phone and sell them one of our products. So the trend that I’ve seen is that the complicated funnels, the complicated email sequences, the complicated launches, the complicated video sequences, is all just, people are too impatient.

They want the information now. Now, now, now, now, now. And so making things less complicated and more simple is better. The fact of the matter is the more you put in between your message and your customer, the fewer customers you will have.

And your message is what sells, not a button, not an email sequence. It’s what’s in the email sequence. It’s what’s in the videos. It’s what’s in the funnel, not the funnel itself.

So realizing that and making things simpler for your customer is gonna work a lot better. Okay, the second thing I’ve noticed is that people are paying way more for courses. Now, what does that mean? So a lot of times, in the online course space, you’ll have people that sell things for like 50 bucks on Udemy.

Or they’ll sell, they’ll have a whole webinar funnel made out, and they’ll have this whole system made out, and they’ll sell their program for like 500 or 1,000 bucks. And what’s happening here is people are getting course buying fever, they’re buying 500 or $1,000 or even $50 course after course after course.

And because they’re priced so low, there’s not really a lot of support with the program. There’s not really direct coaching. Because there’s a difference between knowing what to do and how to do it.

And knowing how to do it well. And the only way to know how to do it well is to have somebody literally consult you and coach you through it. But to do that, you have to charge more for your program.

You can’t be getting on two or three calls a week helping your group for a measly 500 bucks. It just would not make sense in the market. You would have way too many people on the call, and you wouldn’t be able to give value.

And so what’s happening here is not only are people willing to pay more for courses because they want higher-end stuff. They want more help. They don’t wanna buy 500 or 997 courses anymore and have a collection of a dozen of them.

They wanna buy one premium product that solves their entire problem and gets the support to go with it. So what we started doing, and we started doing this a while ago, is we raised our prices, and we provided way, way, way, way more support.

Everything from the actual program to downloadable systems, fill in the blank, all the way to really intense coaching calls. Like on our coaching calls, we literally brainstorm copy and ads with our clients.

That’s very difficult to find in a $500 course. It’s unheard of, and the thing is people would rather pay a premium price for a product that is going to get them their actual problem solved, or get them their result than pay cheap for something that is kinda gonna solve their problem.

And, yes, there are people out there who are still wanting to pay 50 bucks or $500 for a program, but are those really the customers that you want? Like, think about it. Would you rather work with somebody that pays you 500 or 5,000? The person that pays you 5,000 is, believe it or not, gonna ask less of you.

They’re gonna take it more seriously. They’re gonna take action. You’re gonna get better testimonials, and you’re gonna have more resources to work with that person. Because you’ll have more money to invest in those resources.

And so my advice is to think about selling your products and your services and your coaching, consulting courses for a more premium price. And use that money to help your client more. Or adjust your offer.

For instance, if you sell a weight loss course for entrepreneurs, think about this. Think about how you frame it. Instead of just selling weight loss, you sell weight-loss for busy traveling entrepreneurs.

Hey, are you on the road? Do you find trouble maintaining your weight when you’re on the road because of bad food? We can help solve your problem. Now you’re taking a business person, somebody that’s traveling, who obviously has money because they’re traveling, they’re a business person.

And you’re solving a really big pain point in their life, rather than just a general weight loss course. That’s the difference between selling a course for 100 bucks and selling a course for 5,000.

I travel all the time. I speak. I would gladly pay $5,000 for somebody to get my nutrition and my fitness solved, personal attention on the road. That’s worth 5,000 to me. I’d rather pay 5,000 for that than 500 for a general course on how to lose weight.

So the more specific you go, the more you can charge. The more support you give, the more you can charge. People are willing to pay for it. They really, really are. We have sold so much more revenue, a lot more revenue in our high ticket products than we ever had in our low ticket products.

And we’ve got so much better results. And we’ve been able to give so much more to our clients. I highly implore you to get on this. Plus, it is so much easier to sell high ticket because most of the time it’s just a phone call.

There’s virtually no refunds, no chargebacks, no piracy, so I understand that a lot of people don’t wanna do sales calls. They don’t wanna get on the phone. But it’s like here’s this one thing you don’t wanna do that if you do it, you cut out five things you don’t wanna do.

‘Cause nobody wants to deal with piracy. Nobody wants to deal with refunds. Nobody wants to deal with chargebacks. Nobody wants to deal with massive amounts of support tickets. When you sell high ticket, there’s hardly any support tickets.

So you think you trade one thing you may not wanna do for five things you don’t wanna do. Think about it like that. A high ticket is a new trend, and it’s not just because people are making money.

It’s becoming far, far easier to sell other people’s knowledge. So look at Masterclass. The masterclass is a thriving company. They go out, they find directors, actors, screenwriters, runners, athletes, and they film them teaching a masterclass and sell it on a masterclass.

com Look at Andrew Warner from Mixergy. He interviews high-level business people and sells access to those interviews. It is getting easier and more accepted to, if you’re not an expert, sell someone else’s advice on something you’re interested in for a price.

Think about this. Let’s say you’re trying to be a hairstylist, and you’re just a normal person going up in the world as a hairstylist. But you know like four, five, six really successful hairstylists.

You could create a course where you say, hey my name is Mary and I’m an aspiring hairstylist. And what I’ve done is I’m on a journey to become the best hairstylist and start my hairstyling business.

And so interviewed these five massively successful hairstylists on all these different topics, and you can get access to this price. That is becoming easier and easier to do and more accepted. So if you don’t have your own advice to sell you can definitely sell somebody else’s advice.

All right, just to summarize, simple is better, get people to your message quicker and with less complicated funnels. People are willing to pay more and it is a much better business model to charge more.

You can give more value. And it’s getting easier and easier to sell other people’s knowledge if you yourself are not an expert in any one particular category. So I just wanted to like talk about how you can actually go about building your email list, depending how like how you want to do it, and obviously you could just depending on like the laws in your area and like and also in terms of who, you’re reaching out to you, can potentially let’s, scrape information online or use that email harvesting tools in order to build a massive email list.

But your goodness like. I have definitely played around with things like this in the past and I still have a number of cold outreach automation, sequences. Just you’re, going to get much lower conversion rates and there’s there’s.

No two ways about it: someone who’s opted in to receive emails from you compared to cold outreach. There’s. All there’s, always going to be one winner. So I wanted to talk more today on like building an actual engaged audience with ya, but by collecting email addresses and then enrolling in tonight.

Your preferred email automation tool be at MailChimp in grid, whatever you may be using so to get started. I’m, going to suggest that you use at all something like similar to this. You know whether you’re using notify of all at one of our competitors.

Sleek, no optinmonster! Anything like that, whatever you prefer to use as long as you have a system in place for collecting email addresses, ideally something that can support like behavior based triggers, because that’s, going to make a really big difference.

For example, if the user is going to abandon your website, if their mouse leaves the page and they go to change tabs or go to hit the close button or something exit intent triggers are going to be really powerful for retaining these customers and these these visitors.

Sorry, you have to remember: they’re, only 2 % of visitors who come to your website actually convert into customers, so that means 98 % of people on average. Coming to a website on the average website actually abandon a website: 98 % people aren’t taking action.

So all of that effort that you’re putting into Facebook ads Google Ads marketing and search engine optimization ninety-eight percent of that is actually not going to it’s not going to turn into like conversions and customers.

So really you want to be that’s. Why? I’d like to focus so heavily on conversion, optimization and trying to bump those numbers up. So we get better return on investment from marketing and I’m part of conversion.

Optimization is just every opportunity that you have to convert to try and convert an anonymous visitor into either a lead or ideally, a sale, and you should be doing it. So, for example, with, like exit intents and triggers, like I just said when someone goes to abandon your website, we can then trigger an email collection pop-up.

Perhaps they’re, not ready to sign up just yet, and you have to leave this. It’s, a real person that you’re like dealing with on the end of the computer like watching who’s looking at a website. Perhaps they have something going on in real life, their whites accordingly and they thought could like distracting them.

They’re, getting a call from their girlfriend, whatever it may be. There are so many like distractions in real life, and perhaps they’re just all they’re, just not ready to convert yet they haven’t been quite convinced yet.

So, in this scenario is such a beneficial tool to collect an email address, because we know that they’re on your website for one reason or another, and you know people don’t just mindlessly click around the internet, wasting time on Website so one of the most powerful ways if they’re, not ready to compare just yet it’s, just to collect an email address from this person, and so in this example like you could offer them like a 15 %.

You could often like a 15 % discount good, so it’s good to like offer some incentives for joining your your email list, and so, like you can play around with this and see what what works best for you in terms of what you’re, offering is an incentive like people often use lead magnets for giving away like ebooks or even like a free trial, or just some incentive someone to pass over their email address, and then once you have their email address you you now have like The ability to contact that person almost like forever.

Obviously there’s, going to come a point where you you may want to give up on that lead. If you don’t manage to convert them, but now we can enroll them straight into an automation sequence, so that your website visitor, is going to enter their email here and and submit it.

And we can then go and send over to something like MailChimp to your email, automation, tool of choice and it’s completely up to you how you might go about it from there on it. Also it’s, going to depend a lot on your product.

What it is you’re actually selling like the price point of the product. If you’re, offering a very expensive and like a course or something like that, so one thousand two thousand dollars if it’s like a high ticket item, it may not be be good to go indirectly free and trying to close Someone immediately buy it by getting a sale from them, and perhaps you’re, going to need to do something like sending over one or two like warm up emails with like educational content, teaching them like why you’re, an authority in Your industry and and why they should buy your product or service, but not actually trying to close them in those initial two emails.

So you’re just like warming them up and building up a bit of a relationship. If you have much like lower ticket items, for example, we’ve notifier. It’s, nine dollars per month, so active website widget.

We can go in with like a much more like direct approach. We also offer like a free trial and often it’s, much easier. It’s, much smoother to onboard someone with a free trial, rather than asking them to like pay upfront.

So obviously they have a chance to test the product to make make sure that notifier is the right solution for them. If you’re doing, that is services based industry plants, you don’t even want to send over educational content.

Maybe they already know what you’re, looking, what they are looking for, but you could send over an automated email sequence for booking in, like it’s, a product demo or like am an onboarding call like or even like a sales Call with a member of your sales team, you know you could use something like canhardly for sending for sharing your calendar with people.

It’s, a very simple, easy and integrated way to to book calendar appointments, so yeah like essentially from here. You just go in and send over the data. You would input the URL that you want to send off your emails to so we send over to MailChimp to exactly Integra Mount whatever it is.

You’re doing. I have another video on building out your own email, automation, sequence via Gmail, so yeah. However, however, you want to do it, and really this is just a video saying. This is something that really you should should be doing this.

This was an example of it on a on your website itself. You could also do like a time delay. For example, if someone has been on the page for 90 seconds, maybe we can trigger a pop-up. Then, if you’re on a blog post, a great way to trigger – and this would be if the user has scrolled like 80 percent down the page – and we could then trigger the the email collection tool and it’s going to – And then, because we know that they’ve read the majority of your content.

There, 80 percent through your blog post, they’re. Obviously engaged goes like I said. People don’t tend to waste time on website pages. So we know that they’re interested in what you’re talking about and then asking them to join your email list, perhaps saying that you send out new content every week like similar to the article that they’ve.

Just read and it’s, just a very easy way to build up your email list. There’s, a very good book called content Inc. I definitely recommend everyone goes and reads that I actually wrote a blog post a while ago, giving like extracts from from the book and my like takeaways from it.

Essentially, it’s about a story of someone who his true story of a guy who made a blog and just built an email list, and because people had read his blog previously, they knew that he was. He knew what he was talking about and he was a bit of an authority in the industry.

So when they joined his email list, it was very easy for him to go and sell products to them because they trusted what what he was talking about, because they had opted in firing, his blog. They liked what he was talking about and he went on to make something like thirty million dollars.

When the book was published. I’m sure he’s made a lot more money than that now, but these are just proving that blogs and like. I would even look at this at our old fashioned. The email marketing is not particularly innovative, but often the old ways are the best and you don’t always need to like be using the most innovative and cutting-edge artificial intelligence.

Optimization personalization solutions, just sometimes a good old fashioned like building an email list and writing out a good sequence, with good copy and selling to the user over the space of write a six month.

Automation or something is a really good way to bring in revenue once it is set up. It’s, going to run forever as well. So anyone knew who joins your email list. You’re, going to be able to sell to them going forward without even thinking about it, so you could very easily also turn it into am a passive income and, depending on what you’re selling.

Even if you’re, doing like affiliate marketing, in fact, especially if you’re, doing affiliate marketing, this would be a mess in firm. A would be a massive and priority for me if I was doing affiliate marketing a client of mine who is an affiliate marketer.
